After two days of intense multi-lap racing around a technical manmade loop at Waterville's Quarry Road Trails, UVM's Bill Harmeyer and Middlebury's Sophia Laukli have nabbed EISA Nordic Skier of the Week honors.
UVM senior Bill Harmeyer grew up in Underhill, Vermont, and is a nursing major. He's had a distinguished ski career, including several carnival wins and qualifying for multiple Junior and U23 World Championship teams.
Harmeyer finished 3rd in Friday's 10k skate and 4th in Saturday's 15k classic, helping the Catamount men win both days of racing.
Laukli, a Middlebury first-year from Yarmouth, Maine, won Friday's 5k skate by 10 seconds, and took her second win of the weekend in Saturday's 10k classic by 28 seconds. That's three straight wins for her and four team wins this season for the Panther women.
Laukli will be looking to bring her stellar season to the international stage when she heads to Oberwiesenthal, Germany later this month to represent the United States at World Junior Ski Championships.
